The twin expects about twice as much water as feed, by weight, for birds this age.

Talk to the twin

Barn walk, by voice

In the barn this is a 30-second voice note. In this demo, tap a sample or type. Logging a reading updates the twin for the day you’re on.

How this twin works

Mirror, predict, rehearse

Mirror: a live copy of the barn from the water meter, the controller and the farmer’s barn walk. Predict: water and deaths against what this flock should show, and tonight’s air. Rehearse: test a change on the twin first. When a farmer logs an ammonia reading, the twin compares it with its own estimate and recalibrates.

3D barn: drawn in the browser with three.js from the same model. Fans switch on in steps of about 15,000 m³/h, heaters glow with their output, inlets open with the fresh-air rate, drinker and feeder lines rise as birds grow, and each bird mark stands for about 4 to 5 birds.

Thresholds it uses

  • Ammonia: aim under 10 ppm, act at 20 to 25 ppm; humidity 50 to 70% (Canada’s Code of Practice)
  • CO2 under 3,000 ppm; 1 m³ of gas burned adds 1 litre of water to the air (Canadian Poultry)
  • Water alert under 90% of expected (example); daily deaths over 0.3% (Dutch avian flu study, ducks)
  • Density 31 kg/m², up to 38 kg/m² with daily records (Chicken Farmers of Canada)

Model inputs and assumptions

  • Growth and feed: Ross 308 objectives, 2022
  • Water about twice feed by weight (Aviagen)
  • Bird heat: CIGR broiler equation, 10.62 × weight^0.75 W; CO2 185 L/h per kW
  • Barn heat loss, litter moisture and ammonia emission: illustrative, to be calibrated in the pilot
  • Simulated barn, flock and weather
